Mr. De la Bèreasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in connection with the proposed war bonus for teachers, he will consider amending the regulations so that there should be a rate of not less than 10s. weekly payable to all teachers alike, irrespective of sex or present salary?
§ Mr. ButlerI have been asked to reply. The question of war bonus, like that of teachers' remuneration generally, is a matter primarily for the consideration of the Burnham Committees representing the teachers and the local education authorities. They have recently agreed to recommend to their constituent bodies a war bonus for teachers on the same terms, subject to some minor adjustments, as those awarded after arbitration to civil servants.
