§ Sir A. DuncanI have been asked to reply. The quantity of iron and steel scrap and waste, fit only for the recovery of metal, exported from the United Kingdom during the period specified was as follows: —
1934 1935 1936 1937 1938 Thousand tons 224 168 139 231 173 The above figures for years prior to 1938 include such exports of ships intended for breaking up as were recorded at the Customs. In 1938 these exports were separately recorded and the gross tonnage of the vessels amounted to 13,002 tons.
