§ Mr. Thorneasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he can make a statement about the methods adopted in the concentration scheme in the fat-melting industry; and whether he has considered the protest made by the firm of Henson and Burbidge, Matusa works, London, about the matter?

Major Lloyd GeorgeThe scheme of concentration of the edible fat melting industry is designed to secure economy in transport, man-power and coal consumption. The selection of the nucleus factories was made by my Department at the request of the industry and this was done after all plants had been inspected by our representative. The reply to the last part of my hon. Friend's Question is in the affirmative. The protest appears to be based on a misunderstanding as to the nature of the scheme.
