§ Colonel Carverasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is satisfied that the present prices of bread meet the views of all bakers, both urban and rural; and whether it is proposed to continue them throughout the winter?
Major Lloyd GeorgeMy Noble Friend has reason to believe that the present prices for bread, coupled with the arrangements he has made to license the sale of bread at higher prices in sparsely populated rural areas and in towns which have lost more than 40 per cent. of their prewar population, have met with the general approval of the bakery trade. The present arrangements will be reviewed after they have been in operation for three months.
