§ Mr, Harold MacmillanI assume that the hon. and gallant Member is referring to the Transportation Officers employed by the Ministry of Supply in London and792W the provinces, of whom there are 36. Their functions are to facilitate the importation and movement of commodities for the Ministry of Supply, and certain traffics for the Ministry of Works and Buildings and the Ministry of Agriculture, and to ensure that ocean and inland transport are used to the best possible advantage compatible with the national interest. As regards the last part of the Question, I am satisfied that these officers are performing useful and necessary work.
