§ Mr. Glenvil Hallasked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will make arrangements to increase the weekly ration of cigarettes to Royal Air Force personnel engaged on operational flying?
Captain BalfourRoyal Air Force personnel do not receive rations of cigarettes but they are afforded facilities for buying them at the station canteens. The188W supplies available in these canteens may be limited from time to time because of the general shortage of supplies throughout the country. In view of the fact that the shortage is general I do not feel justified in taking special steps to secure a larger allotment of cigarettes to Royal Air Force station canteens; nor do I think that I should be justified in arranging for the sales of such cigarettes as are available in the canteens to be increased for the flying personnel at the expense of the ground personnel.
