HC Deb 04 February 1941 vol 368 cc811-2W
Sir W. Jenkins

asked the Minister of Supply whether South Wales is getting a fair share of Government works and contracts; whether he is making full use of small factories and workshops in the area; and how many Welsh experts are employed in Wales as compared with persons employed from other parts of the country to look after Welsh interest?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

So far as the Ministry of Supply is concerned, the answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. Efforts are continuously being made to utilise to the full the capacity available in small factories and workshops in South Wales, and this is a matter to which the Ministry's area officer, who is himself a Welshman, gives special attention. As regards the last part of the Question, comparative figures are not available, and I am afraid could not be given without detailed inquiry; but my hon. Friend can rest assured that the interests of Wales are given all proper consideration.
