HC Deb 02 December 1941 vol 376 c1021W
Colonel Carver

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, since goat-flesh is now controlled in price, arrangements exist for the humane slaughtering of these animals?

Mr. E. Brown

I have been asked to reply. The Slaughter of Animals Act, 1933, applies to the slaughtering of goats and kids in slaughterhouses within the area of any local authority unless the authority concerned has passed a resolution exempting these animals from the operation of the Act. The information available to me is to the effect that this power has rarely, if ever, been exercised.
