HC Deb 21 March 1940 vol 358 c2152W
Mr. Lyons

asked the Minister of Supply under what authority his Department is taking control of the repair and examination of motor vehicles coming to this country from overseas, and from what date; and will he indicate the technical and administrative machinery it is proposed to employ for that purpose?

Mr. Burgin

The Question presumably relates to motor vehicles required for the Army: control of the repair and examination of such vehicles was included among the powers and duties of the Secretary of State for War and the Army Council which were transferred to me by the Ministry of Supply (Transfer of Powers) Order in Council made on 25th July last. The Director-General of Tanks and Transport in the Ministry of Supply is responsible for the administration and technical machinery attaching to this repair service. He has on his staff for the work the Director of Mechanisation and the Chief Inspector of Mechanisation, who were transferred from the War Office to the Ministry on the formation of the Ministry.
