HC Deb 21 March 1940 vol 358 cc2139-40W
Mr. Levy

asked the Home Secretary when the review of certain classes of enemy aliens who have been exempted from internment will begin; and whether he intends to enlarge the scope of this review as originally proposed?

Sir J. Anderson

Yes, Sir. In addition to the review already announced of Germans and Austrians who have been placed in the intermediate B category, I am asking the advisory committees to review cases where, as a result of fresh information or for some other special reason, the police have grounds for thinking that a reclassification of Germans or Austrians placed in the C category is desirable. I am also asking these committees to undertake an examination of cases of aliens of all nationalities residing in or around certain important naval centres. Much of the work necessary to bring this scheme into operation has already been completed and the carrying out of this review will proceed expeditiously.
