Mr. Temple Morrisasked the Home Secretary whether he will make it a penal offence to sell Red Biddy, or similar concoctions, to any embodied troops; and whether he will introduce such further legislation as would be needed for the purpose?
§ Sir J. AndersonI should deprecate any suggestion that the licensing laws should differentiate against members of His Majesty's Forces and should prohibit the sale to soldiers of drinks which it is lawful for a civilian to purchase. But if by the term "Red Biddy" is meant wine adulterated with methylated spirit the sale of such a concoction is already illegal.
