§ Mr. R. Lawasked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that large quantities of Norwegian fish have been coming into Newcastle, and that largely owing to lack of marketing facilities at the port of landing, a considerable proportion was rendered unfit for human consumption; and whether, in order to avoid a recurrence of such incidents, he will arrange that future supplies are directed to those ports which are in a position to handle them expeditiously?
§ Mr. W. S. MorrisonI am aware that difficulty was experienced in marketing a recent shipment of Norwegian fish, which arrived unexpectedly at Newcastle, some of it in poor condition owing to delay in transport, on a day when large stocks still remained on hand from an abnormally heavy consignment which had arrived during the previous week. I understand that the shippers are endeavouring to spread their shipments more evenly, so as to avoid a recurrence of such an incident.
