§ Sir J. Lucasasked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the admitted shortage of skilled cooks for our rapidly expanding forces, he will allow unemployed chefs to enlist even temporarily, since they are at present debarred from so doing, as being in a reserved occupation; and whether the age-limit could be lowered for volunteers in these cases?
§ Mr. AsshetonThe application of the Schedule of Reserved Occupations was recently relaxed in respect of cooks, and the present position is that chefs, whether employed or unemployed, are free to enlist for service as cooks in the Armed Forces, even though they may be above the age of reservation.
