§ Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why, as the policy of the newspaper was directed to persuading Jews and Arabs to cease committing terrorist acts against each other and to co-operate politically, the editor and three distributors of the Palestine newspaper "El Haor" were arrested in July, 1939; whether they were convicted; and, if so, what penalty was imposed?
Mr. M. MacDonaldThe editor of the "Haor" was arrested, with three of his associates, on information showing that they were engaged in subversive activities. They were placed under detention for 12 months under Article 15B of the Emergency Regulations made under the Palestine (Defence) Order-in-Council. The editor himself was released on medical grounds in August, 1939, and placed under police supervision under Emergency Regulation No. 15A.
