§ Mr. Gledhillasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware of the hardship caused by the long delays in the settlement of claims for the Government occupation of premises; and will he augment the staffs of district valuers so that claims may be settled with reasonable punctuality?
§ Captain CrookshankThe settlement of compensation in respect of occupied premises is not dealt with by the Treasury but by the Departments concerned. They have been authorised to make substantial 1145W payments on account pending a final settlement and I understand that this authority has been widely used. Additions have recently been made to the staff engaged on this work in the War Office, and if necessary the staff in other Departments will be augmented.
