HC Deb 06 August 1940 vol 363 cc60-1W
Mr. Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that members of the Perth and District Food Producers' Association, consisting of allotment holders, market gardeners and private gardeners having large surpluses of garden produce are anxious to enter into arrangements with Army authorities in Perth and district to supply Army units with vegetables, fruit, etc; and what steps the local command is taking to exhaust the possibilities of local agents before making purchases from outside sources, thereby providing the freshest possible food for the troops, and disposing of local produce?

Mr. Eden

The supply of fresh fruit and vegetables for troops' messing is made through the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes, and the Perth and District Food Producers' Association should communicate with the Surveyor of Supplies, Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes, Colquhoun House, 5, Broad-wick Street, W.I. In addition, local competitive contracts are made by commands for supply to hospitals and internees, and, in regard to these, the association should get into touch with the headquarters of the Scottish Command in Edinburgh.
