§ Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has considered the representations made in a memorandum from West Africans in this country respecting the low price levels fixed for the African growers of cocoa; and whether he will sympathetically consider arranging such an adjustment in the price level as will enable African cocoa farmers to enjoy an income commensurate with their increased, and increasing, liabilities?
Mr. M. MacDonaldI have received the memorandum; and a full reply is in preparation. As regards the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to my answer to the hon. Member for Shipley (Mr. Creech Jones) on 22nd February. It is important to remember that only about one quarter of the crop is consumed within the Empire.
