§ Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether it is the intention of His Majesty's Government to protect the inshore fisheries of the Western Isles and the livelihood of fishermen absent on active service from the depredations of illegal trawling; and when measures are to be taken for this purpose, in view of the present violation of the law by trawlers?
§ Mr. ColvilleOwing to naval requirements it has not been possible to maintain the normal fishery protection service. I am, however, advised that the inshore fisheries have not been seriously affected by illegal trawling, but the matter is kept under observation.
