§ Mr. Tinkerasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the feeling of unrest at the changed prices of goods that are taking place; and will he take steps to get retail traders to show the prices on each article for sale so that the purchaser will know exactly what he will have to pay?
§ Mr. StanleyI am aware of numerous complaints about increases in the price of goods. The Government have given further consideration to the measures to be taken to deal with unjustifiable increases. Although it would be possible to proceed in this matter by way of order under the Defence Regulations, they have 1505W decided, in view of the importance and difficulty of the subject, to introduce a Bill. Certain tentative decisions have been taken as to the provisions to be included in the Bill, but these will be reviewed in the light of discussions that are now taking place with various responsible bodies. In this connection, the suggestion made by the hon. Member in the second part of the question will be kept in mind. It is hoped to introduce the Bill at a very early date.
