§ Mr. Grittenasked the Minister of Supply whether he will give an assurance that before erecting joinery factories for war purposes he will fully investigate the capabilities of existing factories; and what percentage of present factories is engaged on Government contracts and able to furnish all joinery war requirements?
§ Mr. BurginAs the hon. Member for South-West Bethnal Green was informed on the 29th September, I do not contemplate the erection of joinery factories, since, so far as the Ministry of Supply is concerned, joinery is a class of work for which the capacity available in the country is far in excess of the Ministry's requirements.
With regard to the second part of the question, I regret that the information requested could not be obtained without a disproportionate amount of labour in detailed inquiries.
