§ Mr. Lyonsasked the Secretary for Mines how many of the 32 retired officers and civil servants now employed as divisional or assistant-divisional petroleum officers in connection with petrol rationing are in receipt of pensions; and how many were appointed through the Central Registry of the Ministry of Labour?
§ Mr. LloydAll the persons referred to are in receipt of pensions. Thirteen were recruited before the Central Register came into operation, and the remainder were appointed through the register.
§ Mr. Lyonsasked the Secretary for Mines the respective occupations of the eight divisional or assistant-divisional petroleum officers who are not retired officers or civil servants; by whom they were appointed, and when; and how many were appointed through the medium of the Central Register of the Minister of Labour?
§ Mr. LloydTwo of the officers in question were bank officials, two stock brokers, two commercial managers, one an accountant, and one a director of a technical institute. The services of the accountant and one bank official have been loaned to the Department. All were appointed by my Department, in most cases before the Central Register came into effective operation. There have recently been two replacements from non-Civil Service sources, both of which were recruited through the register, and the mechanism of the register will, of course, be regularly employed in the future.
