HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 c1050W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in order to increase the production of food, he will take steps to secure for use as allotments and for ordinary agriculture the valuable tracts of fertile land comprised in the parks surrounding the great mansions in Scotland?

Mr. Colville

In general, land of the character referred to can best be utilised for ordinary agricultural purposes rather than for allotments, and it comes within the purview of the Agricultural Executive Committees to whom I have delegated powers to issue Cultivation Orders or, if necessary, to take possession of land with my consent.
