HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 cc1049-50W
Colonel Portsonby

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether the proposed hutments for Government Departments are going to be built with a special brick without a frog, and that the bricks are to be laid on edge instead of on the flat in the usual manner; and whether this new brick and method has the support of brickmakers and the building trade as being the best type of construction?

Mr. Ramsbotham

Varying methods of construction will be adopted to suit local circumstances, and, as the buildings will be of a temporary character, I do not consider that it would be desirable to exclude the use of any form of construction which will serve the purpose even if it may not be appropriate to the best type of permanent construction.
