§ Sir W. Davisonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that many of the IOS. Treasury notes now in circulation are in a dirty and fragile condition; and will discretionary powers be given to bank managers to return to the Bank of England any notes which are unfit for circulation?
§ Captain CrookshankThe question, I assume, refers to IOS. Bank of England notes. Arrangements were made for special economy in the issue of new notes during the early months of the war, but I understand that full discretionary powers remain with bank managers to return to the Bank of England any notes which they consider unfit for re-issue.
