HC Deb 14 November 1939 vol 353 cc547-8W
Captain Strickland

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the urgent need for an improvement in the allowances made for the children of men serving with His Majesty's Forces, he has any statement to make as to the progress of the inquiry being made into the subject, or when he anticipates being able to make such a statement?

Sir J. Simon

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War is making a statement on this matter this afternoon.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to a resolution passed by the Meltham Urban District Council, West Riding, registering its concern at the inadequate allowances at present made to the dependants of men serving in His Majesty's Forces, and asking the Government to take immediate steps to increase them; and can he now state what action he proposes to take in this matter?

Sir J. Simon

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War is making a statement on the subject of family allowances this afternoon.
