HC Deb 04 May 1939 vol 346 c2081W
Colonel Baldwin-Webb

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, when setting up a commission to investigate milk distributive costs, he will also set up a separate ad hoc commission to investigate milk-production costs, since it may well be that inefficient production is more the cause of high milk prices than any redundancy or overlapping in the distributive field?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

There has been no decision to take special steps to ascertain further facts about the costs of milk distribution. As regards the costs of milk production, I would remind my hon. and gallant Friend that an expert investigation into the financial conditions of milk production was started in November, 1934, and is still in progress. Three interim reports covering the period November, 1934, to September, 1937, have been published.
