HC Deb 02 May 1939 vol 346 cc1707-8W
Mr. Muff

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he is aware that speeches and comments in the House of Commons are not always audible to the members of the Press Gallery; and whether he will consider the advisability of installing microphones and headphones in the Press Gallery in order to facilitate correct reporting?

Sir P. Sassoon

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which was made yesterday to a question put by the hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent (Mr. E. Smith). The same objections unfortunately hold good in the case of an amplification system for the Press Gallery as in the case of a general amplification system.
