HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 c2364W
Mr. Dobbie

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether the Board has given its approval to the acquisition by the York County Borough Council, under compulsory powers, of the site of 3.20 acres for school purposes adjoining Queen Anne secondary school; whether the site has been acquired and, if so, what was the price paid; for what purpose the land had been used; and what was its rateable value previous to acquisition?

Mr. Lindsay

A compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of this site was confirmed by the Board in August, 1937. After a public inquiry, the official arbitrator fixed the price at £1,200, and on 7th September, 1938, the Board approved the purchase. I understand that the purchase was completed in October last year, and that the property consisted of the buildings and part of the land of a farm, but information as to its rateable value is not available.
