HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 c2364W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether the Board has given its approval to the acquisition by the Cornwall County Council under compulsory powers of 2.109 acres for school purposes, on the north side of St. Hilary Trelease county school; whether the site has been acquired, and if so, what was the price paid; for what purpose the land had been used; and what was its rateable value previous to acquisition?

Mr. Lindsay

A compulsory order for the acquisition of this land was confirmed by the Board in October, 1936. I understand that the arbitrator has fixed the price at £174 to the landlord for the freehold and £16 compensation to the tenant, the local education authority to have possession on Lady Day next, but that the purchase has not yet been finally completed. The land has been used for agricultural purposes, and presumably was not rated.
