HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 cc2363-4W
Viscountess Astor

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education which of the local education authorities employ women as school attendance officers; and whether, in view of the fact that the duties of these officers bring them constantly in touch with the mothers and children in their homes and include much that is of the nature of welfare work, he will recommend all local authorities to throw open these posts to women?

Mr. Lindsay

The Board have no records which would enable me to answer the first part of the question. The matter is entirely within the discretion of the local education authorities and my Noble Friend sees no ground for intervening as suggested.
