HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 c2366W
Mr. Noel-Baker

asked the Home Secretary whether he will give an assurance that he will not prevent any foreign student from acting in the capacity of voluntary editor or unpaid assistant in a student newspaper or other journal?

Sir S. Hoare

As was made clear in the replies given on Tuesday, it is the duty of the Home Office to see that persons admitted to this country as students do not take employment for which a permit would not be granted to a foreigner, but there is no intention of preventing a foreign student from engaging in any of the voluntary activities associated with the university or institution of which he is a member.
