Commander BELLAIRSasked the Minister of Agriculture whether any reports have been published in English of the work done by the International Veterinary Bureau set up in Paris a few years after the War to carry out research into foot-and-mouth disease and other animal diseases; and what specific recommendations they have made as to combined action?
Mr. N. BUXTONThe proceedings of the Bureau, which meets annually, are conducted in French and its reports are published in that language and circulated to the Governments of the adhering countries. The principal function of the Bureau is to endeavour to secure coordination of research into foot-and-mouth and other serious animal diseases, to arrange interchange of views and to publish results and reports, but it does not actually undertake research work. It has recommended that Governments should consider the exchange of specialists engaged on research work.
