§ Mr. J. Wilmotasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the danger to pedestrians caused by traffic conditions at the Viaduct and Station Road sections of the Vauxhall traffic roundabout; and will he take steps to see that adequate police protection and a refuge for tramcar passengers is provided?
§ Captain WallaceI am aware of the difficulties experienced by pedestrians in the Vauxhall Cross area. Arrangements have been made for the provision of a tramway loading island on the new road alongside the station, and for the construction of islands at the junctions of Kennington Lane and Harleyford Road, South Lambeth Road and Parry Street, and Kennington Lane and Albert Embankment. When these works are completed, any necessary alterations and additions will be made to the pedestrian crossings.
The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, in determining the present system of police protection, has taken fully into account the existing difficulties.
