Williamsasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the rapid increase in the import of manufactured goods from India in recent years, he will give an assurance that in any arrangements made in India regarding trade between the two countries after the expiration of the existing agreement on 31st March, steps will be taken to ensure the regulation of the imports of competitive manufactured goods from India into this country?

§ Mr. CrossI can assure my hon. Friend that the question of competition from Indian manufactured goods in the United Kingdom has been kept in mind in the negotiations with the Government of India but, as he will appreciate, I cannot make any statement as to the contents of any agreement that may be concluded as the result of these negotiations.
