Macdonaldasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the difficulties of the British West Indian sugar producers as a result of the low world price for sugar and the increased wages they are now obliged to pay; and whether he proposes to take any steps in the near future to press for an increase in the volume of the British Colonial quotas under the International Sugar Agreement?
Mr. M. MacDonaldI am fully aware of the difficulties of sugar producers in the British West Indies, and have had this proposal under consideration. But I do not feel that any useful purpose would be served by inviting the other parties to the International Sugar Agreement to agree to its amendment at the present time.
