§ Mr. Parkerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, to facilitate cheap Government borrowing, he will raise the limit of £500 on deposits in the Post Office Savings Bank in any year?
§ Sir J. SimonTo allow deposits up to £500 in any one year would seem to meet 829W sufficiently the needs of the small investor for whom the facilities offered by the Post Office Savings Bank were designed. In any case I hardly think it necessary to consider any alteration of the present limit until experience has been gained of the response of the public to the recent new issues of National Savings Certificates and Defence Bonds.
