Mr. Parker

asked the Prime Minister whether he has any information concerning the arrangements made by General Franco for the use of Spain's Atlantic ports in the event of war; and, if not, whether he will ask His Majesty's Ambassador to obtain such information?

Mr. Butler

If, as I assume, the hon. Member is referring to the case of a war in which Spain was a neutral Power, the use of Spanish ports by the ships of the belligerent Powers would be regulated by the rules of international law. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give a list of those countries which have now recognised the present Spanish Nationalist Government?

The following countries have recognised the present Spanish Government as thede jure Government of Spain:

Eire. South Africa.
Estonia. Sweden.
Egypt. Switzerland.
Finland. Turkey.
France. United Kingdom.
Greece. United States of America.
The Holy See.
Hungary. Uruguay.
Italy. Venezuela.
