asked the Minister of Labour whether it is the practice of his Department to employ clerical labour on a daily basis in the Employment Exchanges?

No, Sir. Temporary staff are subject to at least a week's notice. The majority of the staff engaged in Employment Exchanges are permanent officers.

The Government's policy for stimulating employment and reducing unemployment has been frequently stated and operates to the benefit of all unemployed irrespective of sex or age. Unemployed women and girls in this area however will particularly benefit from the efforts of the Commissioner for the Special Areas in attracting new industrial undertakings to County Durham.
