§ Major Carverasked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that potatoes weighing over one pound each are to be excluded from the market, under an order of the Potato Marketing Board; and, as this size is what is wanted by dealers and chip-potato merchants, he will take steps to remedy this?
§ Mr. RamsbothamMy right hon. Friend is aware that by a determination of the Potato Marketing Board, made in the exercise of their powers under the Potato Marketing Scheme, registered producers in Great Britain are at present prohibited from selling for human consumption any potato in excess of 1 lb. in weight. This was one of the steps recently taken as a temporary measure with the object of improving the market situation and the question of its continuance, or otherwise, is a matter for the Board.
