§ Mr. BurginI assume that the hon. Member refers to the junction of the East Lancashire road with A.575 leading to Walkden and the junction with A.572 leading to Swinton. At the first junction a roundabout has been constructed and at the second traffic control signals are now being erected.
§ Mr. Tinkerasked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been drawn to two accidents that occurred on the East Lancashire road between Astley and Leigh on 11th November, one at 12.15 a.m., in which two lives were lost and the other at 6.40 p.m., when one person was killed; and will he have inquiries made to find out if the cause of the accidents was in any way due to the unlighted condition of the road?
§ Mr. BurginI have made inquiries about the two accidents referred to in the question. I am informed that the police are taking proceedings against the driver of a vehicle involved in the first accident and I therefore cannot express any opinion on the matter. The report I have received does not suggest that the unlighted condition of the road was the cause of the second accident.
