§ Mr. Morganasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the opinion held by many informed persons, including a former governor-in-chief of Jamaica, that the economic condition of the West Indies can only be improved by an increase in the price of sugar; and whether he will consider this point in connection with the various recommendations made to him for improving the economic conditions of the people in that island?
Mr. MacDonaldI am aware of the opinion stated. An increase in the price of sugar is chiefly dependent on the International Sugar Council achieving their object of bringing about a better relation between the supply of and demand for sugar.
