asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he will, separately,

assistance rates; and what are the six lowest rates for public assistance in county or county boroughs in England and Wales, giving the names of each authority?

Mr. Elliot:

The following statement shows the estimated requirements for public assistance, expressed as a rate in £, of the six administrative counties or county boroughs in England and Wales having in the year 1938–39 (a) the highest and (6) the lowest estimated requirements for that service.

give the numbers of officers of Europeans and Indians in the Indian Police Force as at the last convenient date?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead:

According to the latest return, which relates to the 1st January, 1937, there were 485 European and 192 Indian officers in the Indian Police.
