HC Deb 02 June 1938 vol 336 c2266W
Mr. Joel

asked the Minister of Health whether he is satisfied that the new maternity services in the country are in full working order, and can he state any defective areas?

Mr. Elliot:

According to the information in my possession, the service of salaried midwives under the Midwives Act, 1936, may now be said to be in effective operation throughout England and Wales, though there is a small number of areas in which the local authorities have not yet finally completed their arrangements with other bodies.
