HC Deb 02 June 1938 vol 336 c2259W
Mr. Riley

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government has under consideration any proposals or schemes for public works to be ready for initiation by the Government and the municipalities if and when there are definite signs of a coming depression in trade; and whether such schemes or proposals are being considered by a special committee?

The Prime Minister:

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Health has recently circularised local authorities inviting them to furnish him with their contemplated programme of capital works over the next five years. These programmes as received will be considered by the Government Departments concerned. A general review of the capital works programmes of various Government Departments is in progress and suitable arrangements have been made for liaison between the Ministers concerned.
