HC Deb 09 February 1938 vol 331 cc1078-9W
Mr. Grant-Ferris

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will take steps to limit the number of parcels carried at any one time on motor omnibuses, in view of the fact that delivery of such parcels makes it impossible for omnibus drivers to keep to schedule without greatly exceeding the 30-miles-per-hour limit?

Mr. Burgin

It is a condition of all road service licences granted by the Traffic Commissioners that the vehicles should not exceed legal speed limits, and the time-tables, which also normally form part of the conditions of the licence, are examined by the Commissioners with this in view before approval. I do not doubt that the Commissioners concerned would take any necessary action if their attention were drawn to a specific instance in which parcels delivery work involved breach of the conditions of a licence.
