HC Deb 09 February 1938 vol 331 c1078W
Mr. Grant-Ferris

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that certain provincial omnibus companies work their conductors for as long as 17 hours a day; and whether he will take steps to ensure that the hours of work for a conductor are the same as the hours of work for a driver?

Mr. Burgin

Under Section 93 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, the conditions of a bus conductor's employment shall not be less favourable than those which would have to be observed under the Fair Wages Resolution of the House of Commons. On representations being made by an organisation representative of persons engaged in the Road Transport industry, machinery is provided by the Statute for securing the observance of this provision.
