§ Sir K. WoodDuring the last calendar year I approved 4,235 Orders for the clearance of slum areas. The Orders were made by 409 local authorities in all parts of England and Wales and affected 192,000 persons. As regards expenditure, the amount of the loans sanctioned by me during 1937 for land, buildings, roads and sewers in connection with slum clearance was about £40,000,000.
