§ Miss Wilkinsonasked the Minister of Transport whether he has any statement to make with regard to the proposed order removing barrow-men from the London streets, in view of the great hardship which would thus be caused to these hardworking men?
§ Mr. BurginThe proposed restrictions on the use of certain important thoroughfares by itinerant tradesmen are part of the proposed "no-waiting" regulations which are intended to alleviate traffic congestion in those thoroughfares. The regulations will not affect the ordinary rounds-men delivering goods or street traders occupying pitches licensed by local authorities.
I have given notice that I shall be prepared to receive representations concerning the proposed regulations up to the 31st January, 1939. All representations received by that date will be carefully considered before I reach any decision as to the precise nature and scope of the regulations and as to the date when they shall come into effect.
