§ Mr. R. Gibsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has any statement to make regarding further progress in the building of timber houses in Scotland?
§ Mr. ElliotThe Department of Health had meetings with representatives of local authorities in the East and West of Scotland on the 23rd and 24th March respectively when the possibilities of proceeding with the erection of timber houses was discussed. The Department recently approved tenders for the erection of 38 timber houses in Ayrshire and I understand that the county councils of Fife, Lanark and Dumbarton, the Town Council of Greenock, and the Scottish Special Areas Housing Association have so far decided to build a total of 1,232 houses in timber. In addition several authorities have the preparation of schemes under consideration.
