HC Deb 24 November 1937 vol 329 c1240W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Health whether the Government will consider amending the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts to enable the rural district authorities throughout the country to lend money, in sums not exceeding£500 at 2 per cent., to market gardeners and agriculturalists for the purpose of purchasing their own homes, subject to the necessary safeguard of their ability to repay?

Mr. Bernays

As my right hon. Friend has explained to my hon. Friend, he thinks that assistance to the classes of persons whom my hon. Friend has in mind can be rendered more effectively by the provision of low-rented houses.
